Debuting this May at the Marché du Film, The Colour of Cannes Honours is launching with one mission: creating intentional space for filmmakers and creative leaders of color to be seen, connected, and celebrated on a global stage.

Inspired by the 70th anniversary of Carmen Jones — the groundbreaking 1954 film starring Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte — the initiative blends legacy with forward movement, spotlighting culture-forward storytelling and the people pushing the industry forward.

The inaugural celebration will include VIP receptions, industry panels, networking opportunities, and honors recognizing leaders making an impact across film and media. Among them is Crystine Zhang, who will receive the Vanguard Award.

As conversations around representation continue across entertainment, Colour of Cannes is positioning itself as more than an event — it’s a statement about access, visibility, and who gets to shape the future of cinema.

What stories from underrepresented filmmakers deserve more global attention right now?

Delux interviewed community leader and Black Wall Street 314 founder Farrakhan Shegog for a powerful conversation centered on leadership, economic development, and the future of Black communities in St. Louis.

One of the biggest takeaways from the interview? The reminder that “all movement is not progress.” Farrakhan breaks down the difference between activity and intentional growth — and why sustainable community transformation requires vision, accountability, and ownership.

The conversation also explores his long-term vision for “parallel prosperity,” a model where commercial corridor development and residential community growth happen together — not separately.

“Our communities are dictated by the type of leadership we have but further identified by how we respond to that leadership.”

This interview goes beyond conversation. It’s a blueprint for thinking bigger about what investment, leadership, and economic empowerment can truly look like in St. Louis and beyond.
