Years ago, when I was still a naive young writer, I saw an interview with a famous writer who remarked that it was difficult to write two books a year.

I remember few details from the interview, but I remember that statement because I wondered why two books a year was such a challenge. Back then, I could write two books in about four months. In fact, there were stretches in my career when I wrote seven books per year. I released some as Chris Culver, while others came out under other names. [I can’t share those names because I’m still under non-disclosure agreements.]

Now that I’m older and I’ve got kids, dogs, a spouse, a mortgage, and all the aches and pains that come with middle age, two books a year sounds like a pretty reasonable pace.

I say all that to explain that I’m still working on book #12 in my Joe Court series. I had hoped to be done by now, but I ran into an unexpected challenge: I hated my first draft. Objectively, it wasn’t terrible, but I knew I could do better. So I threw out the draft and restarted. I’m about 40% done with a new draft, and it’s coming along well. I’m pleased with how it’s turning out, and I think you guys will be, too. It’ll be a good book with good twists.

Because book #12 is late, I have to push back my entire schedule. I had hoped to release two Joe Court novels this year, but I’m not sure that I’ll be able to do that. My goal is still to write two Joe Court novels this year, but I’ll have to push the publication of the second from December 2025 to early 2026.

So that’s where I am. The books are going to be worth the wait, I promise. Joe Court and St. Augustine have big changes ahead of them, some of which are long overdue. I think you’ll like the direction things are heading.

Anyway, that’s what I’ve got, and that’s what I’m working on. I’ll post updates as I can.
