Component Runner, LLC
In the beginning, Component Runner's focus was to do building modeling only. Creating wood floor truss, roof truss and wood wall panel layouts in MiTek's eFrame layout software. The idea was that since the layout portion of the truss design process typically takes 70 - 75% of the time on a job, we could help the customer's existing design staff by handling that part of the workload for them. The customer would review the layout upon its return and then handle the engineering of the individual truss designs/wall panel details in-house. Our thinking was that managing all the specifics of each customer's truss engineering preferences would be too difficult, and that was best left to them to handle.
Our customers changed our direction for us.
There was an overwhelming plea for help for us to perform the truss engineering and wall panel detailing in our office, as well as the layout work. For those customers looking for a scalable design solution who needed help in their office handling their design overflow, they simply didn't have the manpower to do the design portion of the work. We answered that call for help.
What has developed in the years since is a detailed customer setup process. We not only gather information about exactly which version of the MiTek software suite our customer is running and capture their default software settings to mimic here in our office, but we perform a detailed interview to complete our Customer Design Preference Form. This comprehensive form includes multiple details about how our customers like to have their trusses designed and wall panels detailed. It's similar to hiring an experienced employee, but knowing they still need to be trained to perform the work the way that particular company wants it done. We become that new employee.
The better we get to know our customers and understand their design preferences, the more detailed this preferences form becomes over time. If we ever need to add more of our design staff to a customer's account to help with increased workload, the detailed preference form ensures consistent quality across all jobs.
Today, we perform building modeling (layout) work, wood floor and roof truss design (engineering), wall panel detailing and material takeoff work. We also serve as "checkers" for companies who want a second pair of eyes to look over their in-house designers' work before sending it out to the shop for production.
Since starting our business in July 2007 we have completed over 6,000 jobs for over 200 MiTek customers in North America and Canada. As our customers request different ways for us to help support their in-house design team, we are always eager to figure out ways to help them anyway we can. We encourage our customers to be creative in the ways they utilize our team to supplement their own.

The Component Runner team was proud to once again display our services at the 2017 BCMC show in Omaha, Nebraska. This was the biggest BCMC show we have seen in about ten years and as always, it was a great pleasure and thrill to meet our existing customers face-to-face and to talk to lots of potential new customers about their component design needs.
