I went to the homeless tent encampment on 10th and Cass during last night's storm
No one was hurt, but the wind and rain destroyed four tents.
I said in his tent and talked to him and his friend last night. Her’s was one of the tents that was destroyed.

They say it's a challenge when you feel the tent ready to blow away, and you’ve gotta go outside in the midst of the rain and wind, and you have to try to anchor the tent down and keep it from being destroyed.

I told the encampment's spokesman, Kevin, that I would replace the 4 tents they had lost at my own expense.

While they were very appreciative of my efforts, they said it would’ve been nice if someone from Mayor Cara Spencer's administration had checked in on them to see how they were doing.

I checked on their welfare after the May 16 tornado, which caused significant damage.

Fortunately, there was no loss of life here. They admitted that big storms are hard on the tents and the people. They say it would help knowing that the city cares about their welfare.

I was out in the storm last night checking on those in Homeless Tent encampments. One of those I caught up with was Annie Shelley, who’s nearly 80. She’s staying at the Tent encampment on Garfield Avenue in North St. Louis.

You saw my stories on Annie, who’s living in one of the tents.
Sure enough, she was there last night, curled up in her tent that even could accommodate her walker. She said she was doing fine despite the wind, rain, and everything else that came with the storm

Like I told you guys, from the first time I met and talked to her about her situation she says she’s hanging in there.

I sent an email to Mayor Cara Spencer's office and also spoke with the executive assistant for St. Louis City Alderwoman Sharon Tyus; both offices checked on Annie. Sharon Tyus's representative even went down to the Tent encampment, and the person from Mayor Spencer's tornado recovery team also made contact with Annie.

She apparently told both of them that she was good and didn’t need help. she said she wants to live by herself. She doesn’t want to live with her family
No
As I said before, she has seven children, 15 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren, and she told me she was tired of raising kids.
She’s hoping someone can get her a small apartment so she can be on her own.

But time is running out: the city is planning to demolish the Homeless Tent encampment on Garfield on Thursday, so people there don’t have much time to find another place to stay.

Police came yesterday and told those there, about 20 or 25 of them, that they need to be gone by Thursday. The way this works is the city usually brings in people from the refuse department who collect the tents, take them to the dump, and dispose of them.

So the people here don’t have very long to decide where they’re going to go. Annie says she’s planning to stay with a friend.
I’m gonna keep you up on what happens to her and others!

Out in the elements at the homeless tent encampment on Garfield where I hope to look in on Annie Shelly who is almost 80 years old and is living in a tent.
The city is going to shut down this camp on Thursday.
