Supporting educators is necessary because they can’t support students unless they first feel supported.

I was asked by an SEA member why Matt and I do the work of the Union. My response was that it’s not about the money because we don’t get paid to be co-presidents, but it’s about the fact that both of us understand that when educators feel supported, students thrive.

Right now, our classrooms are silent. There is no public education happening. But look, our classrooms will be filled with students, noise, and laughter. And that is what public education brings—joy, laughter, and learning.

It is not enough to make rules, if you are not willing to enforce them. Safe classrooms make safe schools for everyone. ⚠️

Public schools are safe places where everyone is welcome, and no one is treated like an outsider. In this place, teachers educate the next generation of leaders and innovators into existence.
