Let's talk "snake repellents" and why they DO NOT WORK no matter what your neighbor, your grandma, your cousin, or the pest control person says.

1st I want to point out that mothballs are TOXIC and ILLEGAL to be placed outside on the ground as they dissolve and seep into groundwater, poisoning every small animal OR PET that drinks from ditches/ponds nearby. Plus, the reason most people say to place them outside is to repel snakes, but mothballs do NOTHING to deter snakes. Here's why!

Snakes don't smell like other animals, they do have nostrils, but they are solely for breathing. They use their tongues to capture air particles that they then bring into their mouths and press against the Jacoben's organ at the top of their mouth and this organ will tell the snake if there's a threat or prey present. Because snakes don't smell with their noses, strong smells like mothballs, sulfur, garlic, cinnamon, etc literally have no impact on snakes...because they don't even know the smell is there!

Snake-A-Way granules are essentially crushed up mothballs, Snake-A-Way liquid has a pungent garlic smell, Snake be Gon contains cinnamon oil, garlic oil, castor oil, peppermint and clove oil. See why none of these products work??

So how do I keep snakes away? Well you shouldn't want to keep snakes away because they are natural predators of many disease carrying pests but if you want to see fewer snakes here's what to do. Keep your grass cut low, remove debris and stick piles and keep standing water at a minimum. Snakes are seeking 2 things: food or shelter. By keeping your yard maintained and not leaving places for them to hide you will see fewer snakes.

Nerd out with me over some mind bending gator facts!! This video probably won’t get many views since it’s a little too nerdy for most, but I love talking about this sort of thing!! People often call crocodilians living dinosaurs, but they actually came about BEFORE dinosaurs and share a common ancestor with them!! It’s absolutely insane and hard to wrap your mind around! But just goes to show how truly amazing these creatures are!! This is Big Mac in the pond at night! ~~~Our rescue gators are wild caught nuisance gators that would’ve otherwise been destroyed. The state of Florida destroys 8,000 “nuisance” gators annually, but we don’t have a nuisance gators problem but rather a nuisance HUMAN problem. 1k people a day move to FL, unsustainably developing the land, and a lot of ignorant people making a nuisance out of themselves. NEVER feed a wild gator, never have kids or pets near the water, and never swim in gator habitat!
