With ice, freezing rain, snow and the extreme cold temperatures heat pumps are going to struggle. If your home is not insulated well it will add additional run time to your unit. If ice builds up in the top grill of your unit where air blows out this will greatly reduce the capacity and operation of your unit. Ice could also break off and get thrown into your condenser coil causing a refrigerant leak. Also after this weather is gone your unit/ outside fan may sound different/noisy and or vibrating. If not addressed this will lead to premature condenser fan motor failures. Water gets into crevices and when it freezes it separates the hubs from the blades causing vibrations and fan blade failures. We hope everyone stays safe and warm!
