Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) is a serious and often overlooked side effect of long-term antipsychotic useβ€”one that psychologists are uniquely positioned to notice first.

Because TD can be mistaken for anxiety, restlessness, or behavioral concerns, increasing awareness is critical for early identification and referral. Psychologists play a key role in observing changes, validating client experiences, and collaborating with prescribers to support whole-person care.

This Tardive Dyskinesia Awareness Week, we encourage clinicians to integrate routine screening, reduce stigma around medication side effects, and center client voice in treatment conversations.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month πŸ’š This year, Mental Health America introduces the theme More Good Days Together, emphasizing accessible, evidence-based approaches to self-care and overall wellness.

As part of this initiative, they developed a series of affirmations designed to support positive self-perception and well-being. Research indicates that self-affirmations can enhance overall and social well-being while reducing psychological barriers, with both immediate and lasting effects. We want to encourage everyone to take some time for themselves during this month, while building skills that help regulate and maintain ourselves individually and as a community. ✨ We invite you to share in the comments which affirmation resonated with you most. πŸ”— Additional resources are available at the link in our bio.

🌍 Together, small, intentional practices can contribute to meaningful improvements in mental health and well-being. πŸ’š
