After 15 years of doing markets, I’ve realized that the tiny details are what actually make or break a market display. Here’s a few details that have made a world of difference for my setup:

📏1. Leveling shelf feet: I modified my tall shelves by adding adjustable feet to the bottoms. Market pavement and grass are almost never flat, and this keeps the displays completely level and safe from tipping over. (See tip 5 for additional safety measures)

👀2. Visual interest & guiding the eye: If you lay everything flat on a table, products get lost. I use risers and small shelves to create varying heights, which naturally guides customers’ eyes through the display as they walk up.

🫧3. Seamless branding: My banners and table runners are custom-ordered to match the exact hex codes of my packaging and website. It creates instant brand recognition and makes a temporary tent feel like a storefront.

🧼4. Backdrop curtains: The curtains hanging behind my open shelving aren’t just decoration. They block out the visual chaos and mess behind them, and also allows for some privacy too if I want to take a break from “people-ing” for a few minutes.

🧺5. Hidden storage & safety: The fabric bins on the bottom shelves match my brand colors. They hide extra stock in plain sight, keeping the booth looking clean while letting me restock quickly. I also put additional tent weights in these bins to keep the shelves stable & sturdy.

🔌 Bonus - A wire-free checkout: Running my POS system on an iPad using a hotspot and Bluetooth card reader makes checkout easy & allows customers to put in their info for my rewards program or receipts. No more handing my phone to people!

Step into the soap lab with me! 🧪 I am so excited to finally share this new piece of lab equipment with you!

This is an overhead mixer, which is super common in cosmetic labs for mixing formulas and making emulsions.

The attachment I have on it here is called a sawtooth impeller. It’s designed to break up particle sizes and make really stable emulsions. There are other impeller types for different functions, but this one is amazing for getting things uniform with tiny particle sizes.

And the chain looking thing? That’s a chain clamp! It wraps around the beaker to secure it to the stirring setup so nothing goes flying all over the place.
