Laura Visioni captured this inspirational dining room by UFab Interiors at the Richmond Symphony 2026 Designer Show House. Everything in this room was meticulously designed to represent history in a modern way, and Laura captured it perfectly. The mix of antique plates and platters flowed along the wall and juxtaposed so well with the modern light fixture. The metallic wallpaper on the ceiling, reflected the light back into the space. I talked with designer Diana Vicenti about how she used natural elements on the dining table to add comfort and keeping centerpieces low so everyone could talk to one another over dinner. She used a mixture of antique china, pottery, natural pods, and a custom made runner for the table. The green paint on the walls made this elegant room vibrant and comfortable. Bravo to this team!

Valentine’s Day with my granddaughter, Kate, at Hotel Bennett simply could not be sweeter! If you visit Charleston, SC this hotel is their premier queen! Kate and I enjoyed high tea in their exquisite Camellia’s Tea and Champagne Bar. This room has reclaimed pink marble floors and the most beautiful smoked mirror ceiling with a hanging crystal chandelier. The metallic floral wallpaper completes the scene for a perfect 3 course tea experience. She and I were then escorted to a beautiful room where we spent the night. Kate brought her special stuffed animals to decorate our room. We had a fun time exploring King Street and slept so well with their luxurious bedding. Kate and I both highly recommend Hotel Bennett and wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day!

For 2026, I'm introducing plum hues to bring a soothing natural element to my personal designs which will balance Pantone’s . Just like music requires silence, light requires darkness: color is so impactful against non-color.
Winter Soltice is on the 21st and then our days get longer so I’m celebrating with outdoor decorations. A few years ago, I enjoyed winter by making ice orbs and they were beautiful to see. But living in Virginia wasn’t cold enough to freeze them overnight and my freezer was full of water balloons which then had to be drilled after frozen for candlelight. My husband and I had fun experimenting with this winter project but it’s not practical to continue since we have food in our freezer. When I found these battery operated orbs, I couldn’t wait to try them. They are different sizes and on a timer and I love them! Placing them on my picnic table at various heights with fresh greenery and holly garland looks festive during the day and magical at night. Getting snow is the cherry on top! Our porch is ready for cold weather with faux fur blankets and a fresh wreath around a candle. More simple trees with lights only are placed around the perimeter. How long will I enjoy these lights? All winter because they make me happy on the porch. Our patio chairs have red berry wreaths on the back and fresh greenery wreaths on the side tables. The inner circle is a perfect spot for a candle or maybe I’ll use an ice orb there too eventually! Have fun with your outdoor spaces and cuddle up! Happy Winter Solstice on Dec. 21st!
