Yesterday, around 10AM, someone posted this on NextDoor🫣🫣

ā€œAnybody do TNR? I caught a feral cat that was living in my crawl space in an animal trap. Sealed the entry point to the crawl space. But the only way I can safely transport it to Greenville Animal care to get fixed is in the trunk of my car. I do not have an SUV. Nor do I have resources for taking care of this cat.ā€

The replies were actually less crazy than normal. If you’ve ever been on NextDoor, you know it’s a full moon every night:
ā€œCall animal controlā€
ā€œTake it on a drive drop it off far away from youā€
ā€œLet it out of the carā€
ā€œWhy won’t animal control do anything?ā€

*Disclaimer: the cat was not IN the car, he was talking about transportation. He was willing to do that after some people explained that yes, people with cars do take cats for TNRšŸ˜…

But then a few of us commented that he needed to be at GCAC by 4am. He said that’s crazy and he’d rather let the cat go.

Honestly, we all feel the same sometimesšŸ˜…

BUT this is your reminder to always ✨have a plan✨

In this case, it worked out because I was able to get here at *checks watch* 3:52AM for some snip snip & vaccinesāœ‚ļøšŸ’‰

That’s not always the case thoughšŸ˜‰

Plan ahead before you trap! Unless a cat is injured or severely sick, make a plan. Fortunately, he is going to take the cat back and release him/her post-surgery!

Don’t be a stranger! Say hi to just one of the colonies we’re helping with care packagesšŸ«¶šŸ¼

3 males left to get fixed, and we’ll help with that too. Shoutout to this colony’s caregiver for caring & doing TNR for so many already!šŸ™Œ

It’s the simple things in life like wet food and petsšŸ„¹ā¤ļø

We’ve already had 7 colony caretakers reach out for help.

Guys. They have an estimated 149–170+ community cats.

That’s… a lot🫣

Every food donation, shelter, bowl, and everything in between will directly impact dozens of cats who rely on dedicated community members every single day.

Hundreds actually because we’re JUST getting started on this. It’s a community effort!

We are ensuring everyone registers their cats in The Mickey and Mouse Project & Cat Trap Depot cat stats (if they haven’t already!)

The majority of these cats have already been TNRdšŸ™ŒšŸ™ŒšŸ™Œ

Thankfully, by winter, I’ll have about 100 styrofoam boxes ready for shelters. I’ve been working on that throughout the year alreadyšŸ˜‰

Here’s the wishlist:

Look at these Kitten Bridge Program members just chillin inside during this heat wave🄵

We’re always so thankful for the people who bring in kittens, even when they don’t know what to do next! That’s what the program is foršŸ«¶šŸ¼

Do they get adopted right away? No, not usually! But honestly anything is better than being outside right now.

75% of kittens born outside don’t make it to 6 months of age. Let that sink in.

So when you take in a litter of kittens, we get them on the books for spay/neuter asap. I encourage everyone to immediately make an appointment for spay/neuter when they find kittens!!šŸ˜…

Greenville Humane Society - females are booked out until November & males are in September currently
Greenville County Animal Care - hit or miss, just depends

These 2 places don’t require you to put down a deposit so just get yourself in and you can always cancel if needed! Just don’t wait until the day of to cancel, please🤣

Alternatively, you can get a Speak for Animals voucher and book with one of their vets. Again, they sometimes book 2-3 months out so do it now!

Same with Concerned Citizens for Animals! Buy that voucher, make the appointment, and just wait!

Thankfully, you have until the kittens are 4-5 months old until you have to worry. But yeah, just book it nowšŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰

Introducing our Community Cat Colony Care Packages!🄰🄰

We asked and y’all answered! It is a huge need!

There are so many amazing people quietly caring for community cat colonies out of their own pockets. Feeding every day, providing shelter, trapping for TNR, and making sure these cats have the best life possible. We want to help support those efforts.

Our goal is to provide care packages to managed colonies that may include items like:
• Outdoor cat houses
• Cat food
• Stainless steel feeding and water bowls
• Toys and enrichment
• Cameras
• Care guides with tips and resources
• And other donated supplies as they’re available!

This program is intended to support managed colonies. This is only for cats that have dedicated caregivers who regularly provide food, water, shelter, and are committed to TNR whenever possible.

🐱 Need help with your colony?
If you’re caring for a colony and could benefit from a care package, fill out our request form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfYpOF-X6RHcUIgYc3liHrqmHgeN_0spkrIhIEqJ5ql4psswQ/viewform

Because supplies will depend on donations, we may not be able to help every colony immediately, but we’ll do our best to reach as many caregivers as possible.

Want to help make these care packages possible? Donations of food, shelters, bowls, and monetary gifts will directly support local community cats and the people who care for them.

Amazon wish list (I will edit this more later to organize & see what is needed most): https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/2VAEO5NQ1J3YN?ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_ggr-subnav-share_E5X5711DH8NQD7VH4D8M&language=en-US
