🦜🐍 A quick clarification about what we do at Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation.

We are not wildlife rehabilitators and do not accept injured or orphaned native wildlife. Wildlife rehabilitation requires specialized permits, training, and facilities that are different from those used for exotic animals.

Our focus is on animals from the exotic pet trade, including parrots, reptiles, small mammals, and other non-native species that need rescue, rehabilitation, and responsible rehoming.

We also work with a limited number of native species that are legally possessed under permit and were originally captive-bred by licensed USDA breeders.

If you find injured native wildlife, please contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in your area for the best care and outcome for that animal.

☀️ A Day in the Life at Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation 🦜🦎🐍

Most people are still hitting snooze when our day begins.

The morning starts with feeding dozens of animals, changing water bowls, administering medications, cleaning enclosures, preparing specialized diets, and checking on new intakes. Before breakfast is even a thought, we've already put in hours of work.

Throughout the day, it's vet appointments, rescue calls, transport runs, enclosure maintenance, paperwork, fundraising, social media updates, and making sure every animal receives the care and attention they deserve. Some days are filled with happy stories and successful adoptions. Other days are spent helping animals recover from neglect, poor husbandry, or difficult situations.

As the sun goes down, the work isn't over. Evening feedings, final health checks, and cleaning rounds keep us busy long after most people have gone home for the night.

It's exhausting. It's messy. It's often heartbreaking.
But seeing a frightened animal learn to trust again, watching a neglected parrot regain its feathers, or finding the perfect forever home makes every long day worth it.

This isn't just what we do—it's who we are.

It is with heavy hearts that we share some very unfortunate news.

Our friends at The Snake Show Company, who are part of our rescue family, experienced a devastating house fire and have lost almost everything, including many of their beloved animals.

They previously took in three birds from us: Anderson, an Amazon, and two green-cheek conures, Pyaari and Aman. They were able to pull all three birds from the fire before the smoke became too much, but sadly, Pyaari and Aman had inhaled too much smoke and did not survive.

Anderson was one of the first animals pulled from the fire, and at this time, he is doing okay.

Please keep their family in your thoughts during this heartbreaking time. We will share updates when it is appropriate, and they will also be posting updates on their page as they are able.

Our hearts are with them as they navigate this unimaginable loss.
