URGENT FUNDRAISER 🚨

Hi all, Zoë here.

You haven’t seen me at the pen in a while because going isn’t easy.

It wears you down and shows you what heartbreak looks like.

I needed a moment to recalibrate and witness the joy of horses being adopted back home on the main farm before coming back.

I don’t know how Ally and Olivia keep coming back. They are stronger than anyone else I know.

Within five minutes of being back at the pen, I saw something that reminded me why we come here and why what CCR does is so special.

A little sorrel filly, crammed in the midst of a group of older, bigger horses. She ran through the gate when it opened and went straight to the water, before any of the other horses could get there. When I walked up to her and put my hand on her shoulder, she flinched and lowered her head but didn’t move.

She was terrified.

I gently petted her neck and after a moment, her ears moved forward and she continued drinking. Maybe she knew I wouldn’t let the others push her out of the way. I stuck by her side for as long as I could, but eventually had to leave that pen to help with a horse in the next. Later, the horses moved and I couldn’t find her again.

Today when we got to the pen, the first thing I did was look for her. A little flash of color in a sea of dark brown and there she was, looking directly at me. She was trying to get to the hay, but she couldn’t make it through the wall of bigger horses. She stopped, lifting her head, and looked my way.

It almost felt like she recognized me. Tears came to my eyes and I looked away. When I turned back, she was still there, waiting.

There’s something special about this little mare. She doesn’t deserve to be here, standing in inches of manure and waiting for a truck that will take her to a terrible and cruel end. Her entire life is ahead of her and someone has thrown her away. Perhaps she was too small, too timid.

To us, she is perfect and we will do anything we can to save her from this ending and bring her to a place that is safe, warm, and will show her how kind humans can be.

So, CCR family, I’m asking for your help. Can we get her out of here?
