Every word.

Antizionism has become today's most prevalent form of anti-Jewish harm. Like other forms of antisemitism, it is an attack against Jewish identity and it brings ugliness to the surrounding society.

This photo from the Redmond Transit Center was shared with us this morning. King County Metro Transit has been notified and their facility maintenance team will clean it up.

Waving a Palestinian flag designed to resemble a trans flag at Seattle Pride last Sunday should not have happened.

The cognitive dissonance is striking. LGBTQ+ Palestinians exist and deserve safety, dignity, and freedom. Unfortunately, Hamas does not provide that, nor does the Palestinian Authority, and much of the Arab Muslim world that LGBTQ+ Palestinians must navigate fails to offer it. Many people who claim to support Palestinian rights often overlook the experiences of LGBTQ+ Palestinians because these realities do not align with their narrative. Additionally, it appears that American q***r spaces often direct their harshest judgment and hostility toward Jews.

Hey, Seattle Mariners and Seattle Pride, it’s astonishing that no one on your teams considered the implications of this act and allowed it to happen. Pride should not come with a clause that excludes Jewish people.

We haven't done one of these in a while, but we're back, and this time it is especially disturbing and concerning.

Antizionist libel goes beyond empty slogans; it does not stop with a college professor's frantic conspiracy theory posts on social media.

In this case, it is found in a faculty email where “Zionist Israelis with dual citizenship” are recoded as rapists, killers, criminals, and security threats. This is how institutional Jew-hatred manifests: the identity becomes the basis for accusations, and the libel serves as justification for exclusion.

The Washington State Human Rights Commission (WSHRC) is facing serious issues. As seen in a recently released recording of a WSHRC meeting, Commissioner Luc Jasmin dismissed a resolution against antisemitism, mocking Jews as “always crying” and objecting to protections for Jewish communities as “special conditions.” This reflects a troubling bias that undermines trust in the commission's ability to protect Jewish communities. Additionally, Hân Trần, a commissioner and elected member of the Northshore School District Board, has consistently failed to acknowledge anti-Jewish hostility, particularly through antizionist rhetoric, which she often promotes. While condemning historical antisemitism, she both distorts the Holocaust and universalizes it. Her dual roles raise concerns about conflicts of interest and the impartiality of policy reviews concerning schools. As Trần’s term ends this month, Governor Ferguson has the opportunity to choose not to reappoint her and to remove Jasmin.

While anti-Jewish and anti-Israel bias exists across the political spectrum, here in Washington State, the most frequent and institutionalized rhetoric is coming from our own Democratic and progressive leaders. As progressive Jews, we are already excluded from conservative spaces, but when our own representatives choose inflammatory rhetoric over community safety, it completely marginalizes us from the political home we built. Words have real-world consequences, and right now, the local Jewish community is paying the price. We depend on our elected officials to sponsor and enact bills that protect our freedom of speech, our places of worship, our personal property, and our safety from violence. This is how local rhetoric is fueling local hatred.

Jewish American Heritage Month is a chance to tell the stories that are too often left out of the larger narrative.
In Washington State, Jewish history is not a side note. Jewish Washingtonians helped build markets, newspapers, social service agencies, cultural institutions, businesses, medical research efforts, educational programs, and community spaces that continue to shape the region today.

This history is one of resilience, contribution, exclusion, advocacy, creativity, and care.

There is far more than we could ever fit into one carousel, but this is a place to begin.

This is what normalizing hate looks like. Jews in Seattle should not have to fear harassment for gathering as a community. Call it what it is: anti-Jewish intimidation.
