Life to me is about developing enough competence to be able to serve yourself and others. I think if I would have been a plumber or an electrician, I would have pride in the work I put into either of those trades. Really, I would take pride in any job, so long as it was constructive.
I think the real dilemma with our society is that you have some people who take their life seriously, who happen to take real pride in their work, while most don't. What's fascinating to me is that those who don't take real pride in their work also happen to have issues with anxiety and depression. As in there is nothing they can do to fix the problem.
I don't know what the solution to this problem is. Nature does have a way of dealing with it most of the time, and it's not pretty. I'm not sure whether there's a "caring about your work" gene, but I think scientists should study it. If you anyone here knows of this kind of research, let me know.
