To the ex that told me “I’m not attracted to black women” and that I “don’t count cause I’m not full black.”

I hope that one day you understand that this comment made me second guess who I am. It made me look at myself during our life together and helped me to realize that you never truly accepted all of me if you don’t even see ALL OF ME. I hope one day you have a daughter and someone makes her feel more loved than you made me feel for my being black, for my textured hair, for my humble upbringing and my appreciation for both sides of my ethnic makeup. I hope that one day you reflect on that comment and you feel shame for even thinking that it’s okay to say those things.
More importantly, I hope you sit down and ask yourself… REALLY ASK YOURSELF why you aren’t attracted to black women. I’ll tell you this, the answer is not “because they’re ghetto..” it’s because you have never been taught to appreciate black women the way you were taught to appreciate white females and while your upbringing is no fault of your own, you’re a grown man now… it’s time to look at your biases, analyze where you can do better and apply change.
