Today we honor our veterans — especially our elders, our trailblazers, and those from communities that were too often told to be quiet and disappear.

We honor Black veterans, Brown veterans, Native veterans, Asian and Pacific Islander veterans. We honor women who served when women “weren’t supposed to.” We honor LGBTQIA+ veterans who served under policies that said who they are was not acceptable, but who still put on the uniform and protected this country.

We honor those who came home and didn’t always get a parade — but kept serving anyway. You mentored young people. You held neighborhoods together. You showed us dignity, discipline, and pride.

We are not just thanking you for your military service. We are thanking you for your survival, your resilience, and your leadership. You are living history, and we give you your flowers while you are here to receive them.
