In the past month the Indian-American diaspora has been living in a realm of duality. On one side, our American friends and family are finding vaccines available in surplus, vacations are being scheduled and joyful reunions are occurring. On the other hand, our Indian friends and family are begging for help and asking for prayers. Vaccines and oxygen are sparse with most only available on the black market for skyrocket prices, crematoriums are filling up quickly and bodies are strewn across streets as the tsunami overwhelms the population of 1.4 billion.
There's a multitude of factors that explain why India is logging well over 400,000 cases per day, a significant number of cases and deaths grossly underreported. Some blame the fascist Indian government, with PM Narendra Modi for his poor leadership and his parties’ selfish desire to host large election rallies during the political season. Others claim its economic/social inequity, and many are criticizing improper global distribution of the vaccine. While Western countries are reaching the end of the pandemic, India and the Global South continue to be exploited by the global system and racial capitalism.
It is so incredibly heartbreaking to watch members of our community lose loved ones. For the next two weeks , , , , , and .gurmat.center are teaming up to raise over $5000 to support relief efforts focused on . We will be equally donating all proceeds to , , , and , which are all verified and well trusted non-profit and mutual aid organizations.
From patriarchs to matriarchs, grandparents, uncles, aunties, brothers, sisters, dads and moms - COVID 19 is pounding on everyone’s door tonight and invading homes. This globe isn’t as big as it seems. Earth is just one giant, diverse community and we need to do everything we can to help our neighbors and loved ones.

Hola Mohalla is a colorful celebration for our Nihang’s to showcase their skilled army moves, from participating in Gatka (martial arts) to standing upon two horses as they gallop quickly - imagine that! What a feat!!

Thank you to everyone who showed up and marched in solidarity with the Kisaan Morcha at Sunday’s Women-Led Kisaan Majdoor Ekta March. It was a powerful day filled with naare (chanting), boliyan (revolution songs) and a sea of orange, green, and yellow. Within the same 24 hours, our Kisaan Morcha was led by women throughout Punjab and India. We thank everyone for successfully extending their efforts globally.
