I found this photo sifting through old weaving pics and it stopped me in my tracks! The memories hitting me like a brick wall, BOOM! This was my first gallery opening. I was in the best shape of my life, obsessed with the dress, obsessed with the shoes, riding a rare confidence. I wrote my opening speech in the car on the way there, repeated it over and over, and walked in feeling like I owned the room, and TBH I kind of did. That night, I met Kala Stein, and Clay + Fiber Works were born. It’s still one of the most memorable nights of my life, not because everything was perfect, even though it was, but because it set a direction like a rolling car down a hill, unstoppable. Looking back now, I can see how much of where I am today started with me standing right there in this moment.

Our first Open Studio was such a gift!

What surprised me most was realizing how much my home and studio have become a living showroom. So many of the original design concepts, tests, and everyday-use pieces are throughout my home & Studio.

I found myself saying things like, “This has been here for 7 years,” or “This one has been in use for 4.” It gave people a chance to see our products with age & use, which is something I’ve never been able to fully show through photos.

One of the most special moments was helping someone build out an entire bathroom set in person, a Toilet Paper Holder, Towel Ring, Towel Rack & Wall Pegs (customizing the straps on the spot to their needs). We were able to lay out all the leather, wood, and hardware options so they could pick every detail from the leather texture to the wood grain.

That kind of one-on-one design moment felt so fulfilling. Not just selling a product, but helping someone create exactly what they needed for their home.

For those of you who couldn’t make it but were interested, I’d love to offer Studio visits by appointment. Just send me a text at 707.479.2144, and we’ll set it up.

So many of you opt for our Wall Straps for hanging curtains & while I love that look and it absolutely has its place, especially with blackout curtains where you want no light gaps, I personally lean toward our suspension straps.

They mount from the ceiling & are fully customizable in length, so you can get your curtains to hang just above the floor (as they should!). They are a great solution for odd spaces where there is nowhere to mount to the wall, or for angled ceilings like an A-frame (I have one too, so I get the struggle). Plus, they add height & a bit more visual interest to the space.
