Enjoyed REDI 2.0 summit, the speakers & working groups!

The REDI Awards are dear to our heart. We presented these at the REDI 2.0 Summit and wanted to share with you all.

The inaugural REDI Awardees are individuals whose unwavering determination, innovative thinking, and genuine kindness have positively impacted the communities of northern New Mexico and enriched the lives of those we serve. Let's celebrate them!

Monica Abeita
Monica Abeita is an incredible leader and a visionary in economic and community development. She serves as the Executive Director of the North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD), which supports regional planning, economic development, and services for aging populations across several counties in northern New Mexico. Her work with tribal governments, local municipalities, and state agencies often focuses on sustainable development and improving infrastructure in rural and underserved communities. Her work has improved the lives of us all.

Tony Mortillaro
Tony’s imprint on our region is vast. Think Blue Bus. Under his tenure as Executive Director of the North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD), the Blue Bus routes have doubled, with 29 fixed bus routes in a 10,000-square-mile service area throughout north central New Mexico, serving Santa Fe, Rio Arriba, Taos, and Los Alamos counties, the eight Northern Pueblos and the Jicarilla Apache Nation. Additional services connect communities in San Juan, Mora, and San Miguel Counties. An app-based on-demand ridesharing system — MyBlue™ — serves Española, Edgewood, Pojoaque-Nambé, and Taos ($1 fair per trip).

Tony has led an impressive effort to design, fund, and ultimately build workforce housing for transit district employees in Española; a Zero Emissions Transition plan, and infrastructure projects in Española, Taos, and one planned in Santa Fe. Celebrating Tony as he is retiring this year after 20 years of service.

Chef Fernando Ruiz & Ralph Martinez
“When I first met Ralph Martinez and Chef Fernando Ruiz, the first thing that struck me was their humility. For two men who have overcome incredible obstacles and then committed themselves to helping others overcome their obstacles, they set an example for us all. I’m myself humbled to be able to contribute some small token of appreciation for all that they do.”
— Pat Vanderpool, RDC Executive Director

Marsha DeAguero
Not all superheroes wear capes. Marsha always saves the day. She takes on challenging tasks while making it look easy. Organized in the midst of chaos. Irreplaceable. Our anchor. She also keeps the Executive Director on track. Marsha serves as Office Manager at the RDC.
