💡NANO/MACHINE HAIRSTROKE TIPS
Coming from a formally trained Microblading artist 🙋🏻♀️
Whereas with Microblading, this stroke would have taken me .5 seconds to lay into the skin with full saturation, nano/machine hairstrokes is an *entirely* different technique. If you’re a Microblading artist wanting to learn nano, the first tip is this:
You are a *beginner*.
That’s a hard pill to swallow. At least, I know it was for me since I had been microblading for 7-8 years when I first started learning nano/machine hairstrokes. I was like, there’s no way I’M a beginner.. I’ve BEEN doing this.. I KNOW how to tattoo hairstrokes, and even more I KNOW how to do powder brows.. I ain’t no beginner! 😤
Yeah.. that ego will get you 😂
Once I was able to put my ego aside and recognize that I was a brand new artist to THIS technique.. it *finally* came together for me 💡💡💡
And I know there are so many of you that are reading this, shaking your head thinking “yup, this is me RN 🙋🏻♀️”
What would have been helpful for me as a Microblading artist new to nano/machine hairstrokes would have been to take a course that *specifically* spoke my language as a Microblading artist.

💥 HEALED NANO BROWS
.more than 3 months later 🥰
My sweet client traveled in all the way from Washington to have nano brows/machine hairstrokes tattooed by me not once, but TWICE! 😭
I usually like to have my client’s come in for their initial touchup within 6 to 8 weeks from their first appointment. Of course, it isn’t always as easy to stay within that timeline when you’re traveling in from out of state!
The reason for the 6 to 8 week waiting period is because it’ll take 4 to 6 weeks for any wound to heal. And yes - tattooing your eyebrows essentially means you’re leaving my studio with wounds since we’re opening the skin to implant ink into it! So, to err on the side of caution, I don’t allow my clients to come in any sooner than 6 weeks from their last appointment to ensure that their skin is fully healed before we go back in and re-tattoo it.
At the first touchup appointment, ink will be significantly faded since there is only one layer of ink sitting in a very shallow layer of the skin. The touchup appointment (which, I should really consider changing the name of the initial touchup appointment to: “perfecting appointment”!), we add one more layer right on top of the healed layer of ink. This ensures that the color stays locked in long-term. If client’s don’t come back for that initial touchup, chances are that with my technique, your eyebrow tattoo will likely be gone within a year or two. The touchup is *highly* recommended to aid in longevity.
From there, I recommend clients to send photos in for review after a year so that I can help them gauge when they should be coming in for their next touchup based on *my* artistry (understanding how my work heals in each client’s skin). The key is to allow the ink to fade out to a certain amount before coming in for more ink - which as the artist, iiiiiiii should be determining - not the client 😘.
Milestone birthdays, weddings, vacations? Not a reason to get your brows refreshed 🤪
