In 2015, Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago was scheduled to stage the world premiere of A Wonder in My Soul by playwright Marcus Gardley, originally from West Oakland. That year I had purchased a subscription to the theater, for some ridiculous low cost of like $10 a month or something, and got a notice around January that year. Instead of the world premier play with music which had been in the works for 3 years or so, Gardley couldn’t finish it and instead started an entirely new play, writing from a first draft to the beginning of the production in 4 months....

This week one of my professors shared that his son in the Netherlands was visiting his in-laws this weekend with Monday a nationwide holiday with Pentecost today. I said it made sense for Monday to be a federal holiday, but less for Pentecost and more for Rotterdam hosting Eurovision this week. One of the benefits for me as a young religious living in a house with community members older than me, or maybe wiser and more comfortable in their routines and patterns, is that I get the offshoots of some privileges - homemade cookies from folks coming for spiritual direction, lemons from parishioners' backyards, I also get HBO.
