Soft green tones, creamy neutrals, and warm gold accents define a restrained material palette that feels both refined and quietly expressive. Natural light moves through the home throughout the day, softening edges and enhancing the subtle layering of finishes.

The overall effect is understated but intentional: a cohesive interior language where material, light, and layout work together to create a sense of ease, clarity, and quiet luxury.

A kitchen designed to do more.

By reimagining the layout, adding purposeful storage, and bringing in warm, natural materials, this Mill Valley kitchen went from cramped and dated to bright, functional, and inviting.

Soft tones and natural light define the atmosphere of this home, but it’s the way it has been planned and detailed that gives it real depth.

Every space has been shaped around the realities of daily life - the family’s routines, hobbies, and the practical flow of how they move through their home from morning to night. Nothing has been left to chance, from how rooms connect, to how storage is integrated, to how each zone supports a different part of their lifestyle. The palette of light woods, soft pastels, and natural finishes creates a sense of calm, but it’s supported by a much more functional layer of design thinking underneath. Storage is embedded rather than added on, circulation has been carefully considered, and each detail has been placed with purpose.

The result is a home that feels light and effortless, but is quietly highly resolved. A space that feels calm and cohesive, whilst genuinely supporting the way this family lives every day.

Universal design is becoming an important conversation as many of us begin helping care for aging parents. The good news is that designing a safer bathroom does not mean sacrificing style. Features like grab bars, curbless showers, and built in shower benches can feel elevated and seamless when their finishes are coordinated with plumbing fixtures, tile, and the overall aesthetic of the home.

Even if you are not currently designing for aging in place, a renovation is the perfect opportunity to think ahead if you plan to stay in your home long term. When walls are already open, installing blocking behind the drywall for future grab bars is a simple investment that can make a big difference later on. Great design is about creating a home that supports you beautifully for years to come.
