When people participate in a Kit Build, they're doing more than assembling supplies.
A Kit Build is a hands-on volunteer opportunity where teams come together to pack essential items that support people experiencing homelessness.
Once completed, those kits are distributed through HomeFirst outreach and housing programs, where they help meet immediate needs and support ongoing engagement with the people we serve.
From outreach efforts in the community to support within our interim housing programs, each kit has a purpose long after the event is over.
Because what starts with a Kit Build becomes support, connection, and care.

"Why don't they just give up their pet?"
For many people experiencing homelessness or housing instability, the answer is simple: pets are family.
They're a source of comfort, protection, and unconditional love during some of life's most difficult moments.
The Companion Animal Resource & Emergency (CARE) Fund helps people and their pets stay together by supporting urgent pet-related needs when they need it most.

On their own, they're everyday items. But when someone is facing homelessness, they can provide comfort, help meet immediate needs, and serve as a reminder that someone cares.
Through Kit Builds, corporate teams, community groups, and volunteers come together to assemble essential supplies that are distributed through our outreach and housing programs. These kits help our teams meet immediate needs in the field while supporting individuals on their path toward stability.
It's a simple but meaningful way for organizations to engage their teams, give back to the community, and create a tangible impact.

Not too long ago, Jackie was navigating challenges of her own.
Today, she walks alongside others as a case manager, helping people access resources, build stability, and move toward the goals that matter most to them.
Her lived experience helps her connect with participants in a unique way, but she believes the most important part of the work is seeing people for who they are beyond their circumstances.
Not a diagnosis.
Not a housing status.
Not the hardest chapter of their lives.
Just people.
People with strengths, goals, talents, and stories that deserve to be seen.
