Once I got everything put together and adjusted, I realized the pickups were out of phase (the magnetic poles and wiring) so when both pickups are activated together at max, volume capacity fades out by more than half. This was a problem from the manufacturer. Easy fix, but I had to pull everything apart to access the wiring and swap a couple. Takes a lot of tools for such a tiny fix but voila!!! Bass sounds awesome!!! The MM bridge humbucker is sweet! I’ll have to get one for myself!

For starters, you always want good grounding. I use copper grounding tape under the bridge on top of the grounding wire to impede any unwanted noise. Any time you use a painted bridge, you’ll want to sand the underside to insure proper grounding metal to metal contact. I use thin yarn and measure out the 34” from the nut down to mid bridge saddles and center the yarn to the outside pickup magnets and mark the screw holes with a marker and predrill for the install.

Getting so close on this sweet bass for A.D.! Got the pickguard customized and lined up, pots, wiring and pickups soldered. On/off cut switch is installed. Truss rod cover. Bridge will be delivered tonight, so that’ll be installed tomorrow morning. Then I can commence with tone and sound testing, maybe a short vid or recording I can post. One of the hardest steps on a build like this is the bridge. Keeping the scale length at 34”, lining the strings centered from the nut over the pickup magnets well enough for even tonal output from each string. I’ll post pics tomorrow on how I do it.😁 have a happy day.

Lightly roasted maple neck, perfectly contoured for a p bass! Got most of the frets leveled, crowned and polished. Was gonna go with a dark composite fretboard to help with Utah highs and lows with humidity and temps, but everything available had weird streaks and unnatural marks on it, so I had my “guy” show me what Myrtle they had and luckily had a couple super nice prices. It’s just porous enough to get a good amount of tung oil to seep to keep protected for many years. IMO anyways in my experience and is beautiful! The grain on it is fab! For the headstock I’ll go the standard Fxxder style. Full project should be complete in about a week.
