Attention all football players. We will be having 6 PM weights start back up tonight. The nights for weights will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday’s. Coach Mercer will be there ready to go.

A huge congratulations to the five boys that made Academic All-State for this year in football. Alton May, Charlie Terrill, Maxton Schloemer, Sam Lewis, and Titus White. Congratulations fellas and way to represent Salem. Go BigBlue!!!

Congratulations to Gavin Sapaugh, Sylis DuBois, and Max Schloemer for making the Honorable Mention Team of the Southwest Missouri Football Coaches Association. Gavin made it for Linebacker, Sylis made the team as a Running Back,and Max made it as a Defensive Back. This is a great honor considering the teams and players that were represented in Class 3. Great job men. Go Big Blue!!!

Attention all football players…. Off- season weights is starting but we will not be starting today. Due to weather we will not be having after school weights this evening. Anytime we do not have school, we will not have after school weights. 6 PM weights will start next week as well. The days for us lifting after school and at nights will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Make each day better than the day before. Go Big Blue!!!

Central Missouri media announce 2025 all-district football team | Jefferson City News-Tribune The Central Missouri media have announced their 2025 all-district football team, which features six players from Jefferson City, 10 players from Helias, nine players from Capital City, 16 players from Blair Oaks and seven players from Russellville.

This hit’s home for a lot of our athletes in our school. What are the true benefits of those club teams?

Why a decline in multi sport athletes? It’s simple. Club sports are having kids play year round. Parents and kids feel pressure to “not fall behind.”

Soccer, baseball and volleyball tryouts in the winter when the focus should be on hoops.

Spring and fall basketball tryouts when focus should be on track and fall sports.

Every sport is guilty.

Kids pressured by club coaches and directors to play year round. Oftentimes with the fear of not being placed on the top teams if you don’t play year round.

Nothing wrong with having tryouts. Nothing wrong with having year round options for kids to play. However it’s turned into more than an “option.” It’s now a play year round or lose out/get punished lifestyle.

Club and HS sports gotta do better. Let the kids choose the sport they ENJOY. Thats more important than your club winning a tourney or you filling up 4 teams in the 14U division.

(Most multi sport athlete examples are football first kids, why? Cause there isn’t 11 v 11 games year round that are reasonable, once there is you’ll see it more in football too).

We will be having equipment turn in for all football players in grades 9-12 on Monday 11/10 and Tuesday 11/11 from 3:30-5:00 PM. This is the time that all equipment needs to be returned. If anyone is not in a winter sport we will also need help to get the pads off of the outside equipment and get those in storage. Thank you all and look forward to seeing you.
