SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS MOVING TO NOVEMBER!

Governor Kehoe just signed SB 1002 into law!
What it does:
• Moves school board elections in St. Charles County districts to the November general election (higher turnout!),
• makes terms 4 years, and
• requires all tax levies/bond issues to go to voters in November too.
• Candidates can list party affiliation. 
• Starting November 2028

Why it matters: Ends low-turnout April elections that let insiders win. More parents voting = real accountability on spending, curriculum, and policies. Stronger parent voice!

Another school district is facing legal action over allegations it concealed a student's gender transition from the child's parents.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education announced they will pursue enforcement action against Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, alleging the district violated federal parental-rights and student-privacy laws by shielding students' transgender status from parents.

Federal investigators pointed to a district policy stating that school staff "should not disclose information that may reveal a student's transgender status or gender nonconforming presentation to others, including parents." The Education Department's Student Privacy Policy Office opened its investigation in August 2025; in April 2026, it found the district's policy violated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, and in June it issued a formal Letter of Impending Enforcement Action after also finding a Title IX violation.
