CIMC wishes great success for Melody Williams (Sherwood Valley Band of Pomo Indians) and her etsy shop, Pomo Girl Creations. She is a 2005 CIMC Native Entrepreneur Training graduate. etsy.com/shop/PomoGirlCreations

Today we would like to introduce you to Cohort member Melody Williams
Melody's Etsy Shop: etsy.com/shop/PomoGirlCreations

Tsin ta ma na. Greetings! I am Pomo from the Sherwood Valley Band in Mendocino County in Northern California. I love to create contemporary jewelry using our Pomo basket weaving techniques and designs.

I incorporate traditional basket designs into small acorn baskets. Inside each acorn, I place Angelica Root and Sage for protection. This good medicine is intended to ward off negative energy and invite positivity. Weaving brings me closer to my grandmother and our rich culture, filling me with immense pride. What I do isn't merely a craft; it's a sacred tradition. Visit my Etsy store to learn more about me and to view the items I create.

About the Indigenous Artisans Collective:

We are proud to support the Indigenous Artisans Collective within the Etsy Uplift Makers Program. Many of the makers practice craft skills that have been inspired by or passed down from family and community mentors. Product collections include meticulously handcrafted home goods, jewelry and other accessories, in honor of the maker’s culture and heritage. Amongst many Indigenous communities, traditional handcraft continues to hold significant cultural value, as well as economic opportunity.

Through the Uplift Makers: Indigenous Artisans Collective, Etsy, Nest and IDRS are helping to create digital market access and economic opportunities for Indigenous makers while also providing artisans with resources and tools to help run a successful online business. From expert-led digital marketing training, onboarding support, and a custom resource library, the program delivers a comprehensive suite of programming to participants. Additionally, the program addresses key barriers new business owners face such as providing professional photography to capture the creative content needed to showcase their talent and reach new customers in today’s digital era.
