A little surprise on my way to “work” this morning! I enjoy designing out of my home office... even with the crazy part time school schedule and the kids being in my office more than I’m used to... these little love notes make the hustle worth it! 🥰

I’m curious... What has been you favorite quarantine project? I recently finished this space at the end of a hallway leading into our master bedroom. I knew I wanted a focal point on this wall yet I didn’t want it to be too overpowering. While shopping for a vintage hand tied rug for another space in our home... it hit me! Rugs aren’t just for floors... they can be used on the wall as a work of art to add a subtle textured and cozy feel. The hunt was on to find the right size European treasure for this niche!

It’s a beautiful day to be outside. My plans include planting some olives bushes in the backyard! Keep an eye on my stories for the details including some links you all have been asking for! What are your plans today?

I had a wonderful conversation with an old IG friend Kelly this morning. The topic of furnishing a new home came up and I told her it has taken me over a year and a half to “finish” my home... and I’m not even truly finished! For example, this raw steel barn door in my hubby’s office that hides the unorganized clutter was just installed last weekend. When moving into a new home... whether it is newly built or new to you... it’s taxing on the pocketbook. Many people feel pressured to furnish and completely decorate their new home immediately upon move in. I’m here to tell you to STOP putting pressure on yourself to be perfect! If I would have selected a barn door for this space when I was designing the house... I think I would have gone a different direction in materials and style! I am so glad I waited until we moved in and I lived in this space to select a door that compliments his office. As a designer, I encourage my clients to select finishes that are not easy to change... and make those a priority. If budget and or time is an issue, eliminate decorative items you can easily add after move in. This will take pressure off of having to make a hard decision when there are so many other decisions that need to be made! The important thing to remember is that you are on a journey... so be ok with things not being perfect... especially on day 1!

Our furnishings are starting to arrive! I really like the look of lighter couches, however we have a furry cat who we adore... so upholstery wasn’t a consideration... and leather it is! On another note, I am completely enjoying these warm spring days when we leave the walls open ALL DAY LONG! Outdoor furnishings are on their way and I can’t wait to show you how we extend our living space into our loggia to bring a bit of the fresh outdoors in!
