I’m angry.

I’m tired.

And I’m upset that our country has largely stopped talking about Ukraine.

Because when people ask me, “Is the war still going on?” it tells me just how much this war has disappeared from our headlines and our conversations.

Yes.

The war is still going on.

In fact, for many Ukrainians, it feels worse than ever.

Last night, another massive attack struck Ukraine. Apartment buildings were hit. A hotel was damaged.

Families who went to bed expecting an ordinary night woke up to explosions, fire, shattered windows, and destroyed homes.

Many people are now displaced.

That means they no longer have a place to live. Everything they knew—their home, their belongings, their sense of safety—was gone in a matter of seconds.

Russia continues to claim it only targets military sites.

That is simply not what our friends in Ukraine are experiencing.

People also ask us, “What does Hope Across Borders actually do? Does it really make a difference?”

I don’t know. You tell me.

If you spent the night underground while missiles and attack drones filled the sky, and you returned home to find everything you owned destroyed, would a food kit matter?

Would clean clothing matter?

Would hygiene supplies matter?

Would a backpack for your child matter?

Would knowing that someone, somewhere, still cares matter?

We don’t provide weapons. We don’t provide military aid.

But when everything familiar has been taken away, the small and simple things suddenly become very important.

Food helps a family make it through another week.

Hygiene supplies restore dignity.

Clothing provides comfort.

A backpack tells a child that school and the future still matter.

In two weeks, we’ll return to Ukraine.

You can call us crazy. Many people do.

But there are people there who need compassion, encouragement, and reminders that they have not been forgotten.

At a time when much of the world has moved on, we believe showing up matters.

And right now, it may matter more than ever.
