My Scuba Instructor

As an instructor, I get to witness something exciting every time we run our Rescue Diver course: transformations. Not just in gear, but in mindset, confidence, and teamwork.
Today’s takeaway: rescue isn’t about drama or hero moments—it’s about preparation, calm under pressure, and looking out for your buddy like you’d look out for yourself.
What you’ll gain:
- Problem-solving under pressure without panicking
- Clear communication and decisive teamwork
- Personal growth you can tangibly feel: better buoyancy, improved situational awareness, and a calmer, more confident you
- Real-world skills that make any dive buddy safer and more reliable
What the course covers:
- Self-rescue and buddy rescue basics
- Managing panicked divers and equipment failures
- Emergency ascent procedures and signaling
- Stress management, decision making, and post-dive debriefs
Why I love teaching it:
- You arrive ready to dive, and you leave ready to lead
- Every scenario is a practice in empathy: putting yourself in your buddy’s fins and helping them back to safety
- The growth isn’t just underwater—it translates to courage, focus, and trust in every part of life
If you’ve got a few dives under your belt and a readiness to level up, Rescue Diver could be your turning point. You’re not just learning to save a life—you’re learning to protect your own, and that changes how you dive, everywhere.

🌊🐢✨ Dive into the fascinating world of the ocean’s gentle giants! Today, let’s talk about the incredible relationship between green sea turtles and remoras—two amazing creatures that often team up beneath the waves.
Green sea turtles are herbivorous marvels of the ocean, munching on seagrass and algae and helping maintain healthy underwater habitats. But did you know they also have some fascinating symbiotic friends? Enter the remora—also known as suckerfish!
Remoras have a specialized sucker on the top of their heads that allows them to attach firmly to larger animals like turtles, sharks, and even whales. When they hitch a ride on a green sea turtle, they get a free ride through the water, saving energy and gaining access to leftover food scraps and parasites to eat.
In return, remoras help keep the turtle clean by eating parasites and dead skin, which benefits the turtle’s health. This mutualistic relationship is a classic example of how different species can work together in harmony beneath the waves!
Next time you see a green sea turtle gliding gracefully through the water, keep an eye out for those little remoras riding along—partners in the adventure of ocean life! 🌊🐢🦈
