Howdy PITsters; Happy Autumn! It's a great time to get out on your local National Forests, BLM, and Park lands to take in the explosion of colors, breathe the fresh, crisp air, and explore before it gets too cold!

This time of year sees few projects, as the field season is winding down. But, that doesn't mean there won't be lab and other projects over the winter, so keep an eye on the PIT website (www.passportintime.com)!

See you on the trails soon!

Howdy PITsters! We hope you are enjoying the fall as it sets in - it's a great time to head out into the National Forest for a hike, and to take in fall colors!

In this issue of the PIT e-Traveler, we continue the discussion on methodologies and practices used to complete field survey studies. We hope you will join us!

Until then, we hope you and yours are well! See you on the trails again soon!

Sincerely,
The Passport in Time Clearinghouse

In the Shadow of the Moon: Making Quilts for the Great American Eclipse - Shawnee NF - IL - November 14-17, 2023

Join us for another great commemorative quilt-making project on the Shawnee! The "Great North American Eclipse" will trace a narrow path of totality across 13 U.S. states and parts of Canada and Mexico in April 2024. We would like to celebrate this exciting solar event by recording our thoughts and feelings in fabric, so we are looking for volunteers that would like to help us to commemorate past eclipses as well as to mark the upcoming solar/lunar happening. Bring your scissors and thread, sewing machine, and cutting wheel/board, and join us in learning about this rare celestial event happening on the Shawnee National Forest!

Please note: current COVID-19 protocols, as recommended by the CDC and the Forest Service, will be followed to ensure the safety of volunteers and staff.

My Project is in Ruins: Archaeological Survey & Site Recording in Ellsworth - White Mountain NF - NH - October 16-20, 2023

Join us on the White Mountain National Forest (WMNF) to help with an archaeological survey in Ellsworth, New Hampshire! Much of the area was previously surveyed in the 1980s, but little work has been done in the area since that time. When we find a site this year, we will document features and artifacts visible on the surface, make site sketches as needed, take digital photos, and get accurate GPS location data. On Monday, October 16th, we will have a training session, then break up into small groups and begin the intensive survey of the town. It should be very interesting, and we’ll have a lot of fun, so join us this fall for a “hike through the past” in Ellsworth!

Please note: current COVID-19 protocols, as recommended by the CDC and the Forest Service, will be followed to ensure the safety of volunteers and staff.
