Here is our final message on our dissolution process. This page will be deleted in two weeks as we are now a dissolved chapter of Girls Rock. Please feel free to ask questions or leave comments. Conversations are so crucial toward necessary and uncomfortable growth toward restorative practices in organizing and accountability. The message is in the images and below.

“Girls Rock RVA goodbye

This dissolution has been a labor of love and a dream for “Girls Rock” and all organizing spaces that claim to prioritize marginalized identities. GR RVA was technically dissolved in 2019 after repeated incidents of abuse however the dissolution did not address the issues, which we tried to, this time. If we claim it, then we owe it to organizers and community that we serve to own it.

We redistributed a total of $4,843.93 that we had, into the community. We prioritized first former BIPOC GRRVA volunteers, and campers that had financial need. Then, we redistributed to QTBIPOC community members in financial need that reached out to us. The remaining funds were redistributed to Mutual Aid Distribution Richmond and to a community member who has taken the role of repairing and redistributing the remaining GR instruments, to provide it to the youth in the community.

The future holds the opportunity for organizers and organizing spaces to continue to take personal inventory about how they are dismantling or contributing white supremacy and toxic organizational hierarchy.”
