There are around 50,000 bees in a healthy hive. One of them is the queen.
She's longer than the workers, moves slower, and is always surrounded by bees facing toward her β that's the retinue. They feed her, groom her, and carry her pheromones through the entire colony.
Slide 1 has a hint β look for the blue dot. We mark our queens with paint so we can track their age without disturbing the hive. Blue = born in a year ending in 5 or 0.
Slide 2? The dot is still there. You're just going to have to work for it. π
Drop a π if you found her.

Spring doesn't announce itself. It just shows up β in the warmth of the morning air, the first flowers pushing through, and the quiet hum returning to the hive.
We've been out here all season. And now, so have the bees. π
If hosting a hive has been on your mind, this is the moment. We handle everything β installation, inspections, harvests.
You just enjoy the magic (and the honey).

October gave us one of those quiet, meaningful reminders of why this work matters.
Honey produced from the hives we tend on behalf of .exchange.raleigh found its way into a beautifully crafted dessert and cocktail at .
From rooftop to restaurant.β¨From thousands of bees to a single bite.β¨From pollination to celebration.
Moments like this show whatβs possible when businesses collaborate with intention.
Grateful for partners who believe in local ecosystems β and who let the bees be part of the story.

Our team traded hive tools for hedge clippers this week!
We had the chance to join Keep Durham Beautiful for a volunteer day in one of Durhamβs local parks, where we rolled up our sleeves (and put on our toughest gloves) to help remove invasive plant species and restore native habitat.
It was a day full of teamwork, fresh air, and a whole lot of satisfying outdoor work β the kind that reminds you how connected everything in nature really is. Healthy parks mean healthier ecosystems, stronger pollinator environments, and more vibrant communities for all of us.
Nature: protected. Team: undefeated. πΏπͺπ.
