They said that the pen is mightier than the sword.
Now, it's time that you prove them right.
New Aberdeen College invites you to participate in our first George MacDonald Freshman Writing Competition, named after a famous nineteenth-century graduate from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland who later became a Calvinist preacher and prolific fiction writer.
How well can you think clearly, concisely, creatively, and competitively?
On March 28, during our Preview Day, courageous participants will gather at 1:00 p.m. to respond by hand to a prompt provided by the New Aberdeen faculty.
At the faculty’s discretion, competitors may be awarded scholarships up to $5,000, applicable toward enrollment at New Aberdeen College.
To participate, follow these steps:
> Enroll at New Aberdeen as a freshman or transfer student in Fall 2026. (The scholarship applies only at New Aberdeen College during the 2026-27 academic year.)
>Register for and attend the March 28 Preview Day.
> Attend the 1:00 p.m. writing competition session.
One or more awards will be given at the faculty's discretion after the event.
