Poughkeepsie Animal Wellness
Here are some more behind-the-scenes snippets from our Kitten Spay & Neuter day with happylifeanimalrescue this past week! These clips are just some parts of what it looks like shaving and prepping animals for surgery! And yes, they do often keep their eyes open while sedated π³π³ Hence the need for proper eye lubrication to avoid their little eyes drying out π

Rox was hoisted up nice and proper, helping dad pay his bill when he left. Hopefully next time heβll throw in some money towards it ππ€£
Itβs quite funny seeing a pup unmoving in a bag like this, perfectly positioned on the counter - defenitely not something you see everyday!
Rox is an interesting case - he has endocrine alopecia, meaning he has hormone-related hair loss. He comes in regularly to get melatonin implants, which help with his hair regrowth. These implants are believed to work by directly affecting hair follicles, prolonging the growth phase, and delaying the shedding phase.
Rox had a bald spot on the back of his neck during his appointment. We are hoping now that his implant has been replaced, he will be nice and fluffy again soon!

Some more curious kittens came in today to get spays and neuters, and this grey gang was ready to get on the move!
The grey kittens and the cream-colored baby are from Happy Life Animal Rescue, and the two babies in the last photo are from Second Hand Siamese Pet Rescue - CT!
With all of the rescues that come into us, we have been booking up fast, and our surgery days have been jam-packed! We will only be seeing non-surgical patients on Thursdays. Tuesdays are reserved for pre-surgical appointments ONLY. Drop-offs may be allowed on some Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, but not for the next few weeks, since we are surgery slammed!
Thinking about adding a furry friend to your family? Please consider adopting from a rescue! Every year, countless deserving animals end up in shelters through no fault of their own. When you adopt, you're not just getting a pet; you're giving a second chance, opening up a space for another animal in need, and saying no to puppy and kitten mills. Plus, rescue organizations often provide medical care, behavioral assessments, and even foster homes, so you get a better idea of your new companion's personality. Save a life β adopt, don't shop! β€οΈ
