Epic Expeditions
06/19/2026
There's a moment that happens on almost every Epic expedition. Someone you'd never normally cross paths with does something quietly generous, and it reframes the entire trip.
A Kokoda porter who's walked the track a hundred times and still points out the things you'd miss. A Mongolian herder who waves a group of strangers into his ger like it's the most natural thing in the world. A family in the Hunza Valley who hands out fruit from their orchard at the trailhead before you've even introduced yourself.
No transaction. No agenda. Just people being people in places where that still means something.

Most hard treks offer scenery. Kokoda offers something harder to explain 🇵🇬
The track runs past the real battle sites in roughly the order they happened. The campaign was never cleared away, so eighty years on there are foxholes still cut into the ridgelines, rifles and helmets the jungle has slowly reclaimed, and graves of the men who died here.
At Isurava, four granite pillars read Courage, Endurance, Mateship, Sacrifice over the ridge where Australian and Papuan troops held against a far larger force for five days in 1942.
Only around 3,000 people walk it in a year. Long stretches with nobody out there but the group and the jungle.
A place that stays with people long after the mud washes off.
