Hasina is now welcoming a few new clients in her practice! This is a rare occurrence, as she is normally fully booked. Hasina’s style is great for very responsive nervous systems with her gentle, grounded and co-regulating approach. So many of us could use this kind of care! Call or text 503-383-9555 to learn more or schedule an appointment. See below for more about Hasina. 🥰

Hasina is q***r nonbinary, white, anti-zionist Jewish, and deaf/hard of hearing. Her approach to care work is rooted in three truths: that you know best what is happening for your body; that systems of oppression serve as primary causes of disease; and that medicine often participates in marginalization instead of uplifting and strengthening bodies, survival, and ways of being it doesn’t value or recognize.

Hasina’s style is gentle and incorporates bodywork as well as non-insertive acupuncture where that is preferred by the patient. She listens closely to the body’s own attempts to restore balance as a way to mitigate the blame and shame that can arise around challenging physical and mental/emotional experiences. Her goal is to partner with you in finding an approach that supports your agency and allows your nervous system to feel at ease.

Hasina works Wednesday-Saturday, 9:00am-4:00pm

Help us welcome Judy DeHoogh to our team! She is a skilled and compassionate practitioner, and we are lucky to have her on board. She is now taking clients Monday mornings at Zócalo.

Judy has been practicing acupuncture in Portland, OR since 2019, and her work in East Asian medicine has become a meaningful way to deepen her connection with her mixed-race ancestry and Korean roots. Her path as a practitioner is shaped by compassion and a trauma-informed perspective, with the intention of creating care that feels safe, grounding, and restorative. Judy is dedicated to helping people feel more at home in their bodies, guiding each session with an emphasis on resilience, connection, and liberation.

Led by a deep belief in the power of community, Judy is committed to accessibility and inclusivity in her practice. She strives to create a welcoming environment where every person feels seen, supported, and empowered to take part in their own well being. Her work is grounded in the understanding that wellness is not just individual, but collective, and she is dedicated to cultivating spaces where both can flourish.

Treatments with Judy are always tailored to meet you where you are. Depending on your needs, sessions may include therapies such as moxibustion, myofascial release, gua sha, or cupping. Her treatments can be deeply gentle and supportive when that’s what your body calls for, while also offering more direct and rigorous approaches when appropriate—always with the intention of guiding you toward greater balance and ease.

Schedule with Judy on our website. Links in bio.

, .healing, Dianne and I had the privilege of attending the annual fundraiser last night at .

Seeding Justice bills its signature fundraising event as the social justice party of the year, and it really was. The crowd was beautiful, made up of all kinds of humans, all of them in some way on the righteous path of bending the arc of history toward justice. Philanthropy is rooted in the worst ills of this country, so to be in that room with people doing the best with the worst of history was incredibly inspiring.

From the Seeding Justice website:
“Ultimately, we believe that philanthropy shouldn’t exist. But until then, we are working for a better, more just and more equitable philanthropic model that’s based on trust, abundance, equal relationships, and collaboration.”

It also felt good to shake off some of the pandemic social cobwebs. We ran into quite a few old friends, and made new contact with folks where the connection had been stymied by the pandemic, like , who is always doing amazing work and who serves on the Seeding Justice board.

It was moving to feel the history in the room. That investments in community over time yield big results. was in attendance. She was one of the first grantees of the organization back in 1976! And now is a state representative holding down some great work for our state.

So many of these leaders have been working for health equity for a long, long time, specifically in the reproductive justice space. Their analysis, dedication, and community-building is truly impressive. The model of Seeding Justice as a channel of funds to community is personally encouraging. How can we at Zócalo do this in our own way for our communities? Not just by taking public and private insurance, but by finding new ways to use our space, continuing to create jobs for diverse practitioners, or even supporting students while still in school? I’m excited to continue exploring and feeling inspired by this question.

Friends! Zócalo is growing and it’s time for me to get my own personal insta account. The clinic is no longer just me. We’ve got a whole amazing team! So if you know me in real life come find me . I’ll be posting all the stuff I don’t share here: family photos, the videos I make with my kid, politics, animal memes, and travel pics. See you there!

With this beautiful Portland sun and the blossoms exploding in color and scent everywhere, it’s officially spring and pollen season.

There’s no need to suffer, friends! You can do so much to lessen allergy symptoms by working with exposure and diet during this time. Adding herbs and other supplements, as well as early and regular acupuncture treatment, can also help to manage and even eliminate symptoms. Community acupuncture appointments are a great way to get in often and get a handle on the inflammation before it makes you miserable. My favorite herbal ally is nettles, which grows right here in the PNW! So often the remedies come right with the irritant.

For more info check out our blog with plenty of tips for allergy season. 🔗 In bio for that and our scheduler.
