🌎 Earthquakes can happen anytime, so know what to do wherever you are! The Great Shakeout is a chance to practice. So, set your phone alarm, and wherever you are 10:16:

🧍‍♀️ Drop, Cover, and Hold On
🚗 If in a car: pull over safely and stay put.
🛏️ If in bed: stay there and cover your head and neck.
♿ If in a wheelchair: lock your wheels and protect your head and neck.

Every home and workplace is different, so know your surroundings and plan accordingly.

🌊 On this day in 1700, the Cascadia Subduction Zone unleashed a massive earthquake estimated at magnitude 9.0, triggering a tsunami that devastated the Pacific Northwest coast and even reached Japan!

Evidence of this quake remains in the “ghost forests” of Neskowin , Oregon (pictured) - where ancient cedar trees, killed by sudden land subsidence, still stand as reminders of nature’s power.

Prepare today:
• Have a 2-week emergency kit
• Create an emergency plan with loved ones
• If at the coast, always know your evacuation routes
