Art from All Angles
03/15/2019
Just a few days out!! We're running around like frantic chickens getting everything ready, but we've still got time to show off some talent.
Meet Beija Flor - a good a representation of Art from All Angles as there could be. She's an interdisciplinary artist focusing on sculpture & mixed media, and she's all about farm fresh eggs, and cake.
Tell us about yourself and what you make.
"I think all colors and textures and smells are important and deserve some thought. I received my BA in Physics and Studio Art because one didn’t make sense without the other to me. I focus my art on my experience and try to solve my problems with material. I hope that my art can help others through similar problems too."
How does community play a role in your creative practice?
"My art can’t exist without my community and their reception of my work. Much of my inspiration has been drawn from the support and love that those around me have provided me. I strive to make work that gives back as much as possible."
What’s the strangest thing you’ve drawn inspiration from?
"I got really obsessed with the hyperboloid (a shape that appears in mathematics) and I couldn’t be stopped from making different variations of it with gold thread and wood. They are fantastic shapes and I couldn’t help myself."

Next up for our featured artists: meet Zachary Loren Jones - animator, filmmaker, internet-er!
Tell us about yourself and what you make.
"My name is Zachary Loren Jones, and I make animated films. I use simple animation and design, but aim to tell complex stories about our media-saturated lives. I'm from Arizona and I miss the sun sometimes."
How does community play a role in your creative practice?
"I rely on an open source collection of 3D models called the SketchUp 3D Warehouse. Without the generosity of the SketchUp community, my work wouldn't exist. I also co-directed a film about the virtual world Club Penguin, so the idea of communities in the digital age is very much an inspiration of mine."
EDITOR NOTE: Watch his film, Waddle On, to laugh and cry a little about Club Penguin (https://vimeo.com/214638701)
What’s the strangest thing you’ve drawn inspiration from?
"I've been thinking about making a film about the default Windows XP background (you know, the shiny green hill with the blue sky). We'll see :)"
Zach's premiering an awesome short at Art from All Angles, so find him afterwards and let him know what you think about it!
