there is no escape. you can’t be a vagabond and an artist and still be a solid citizen, a wholesome, upstanding man. you want to get drunk, so you have to accept the hangover. you say yes to the sunlight and pure fantasies, so you have to say yes to the filth and the nausea. everything is within you, gold and mud, happiness and pain, the laughter of childhood and the apprehension of death. say yes to everything, shirk nothing.
don’t try to lie to yourself. you are not a solid citizen. you are not a Greek. you are not harmonious, or the master of yourself.
you are a bird in the storm.
let it storm! let it drive you!

art inspired by other art. these paintings feel like visual ceramics. the texture is like that of a favorite handmade mug. simple but complex. earthy and deep. as good things are.

a favorite poem flying a bit to close to the epicenter of my heart that it had to be painted. about love and loss, two ‘favorite’ muses. the latter more involuntary…

i want to study what’s disappearing. in us. in me. and the planet we share. what’s happening to our hearts and what’s happening to species disappearing at accelerated rates?

a THIRD of north american birds have vanished in such a short period. the world is changing, we are changing, we are all being changed.

will there be birds?

forest tales and snails and slowness and rinsing a heart out in green hues and whatever chemicals travel in forest air that shift a heavy heart again and again and again. to make art you feel it all first, as a vulnerable human that doesn’t have a shell.

all the ‘business’ of the right hemisphere. the part of us that sinks into art, someone’s eyes or a song you can’t stop listening to.

something in this tone i’m clearly drawn to…

the creative process often takes us in many meandering directions. every now and then, you stand back and take in where you’ve been led and see the through line.

inner alchemy print with i painted like 5 years ago? then pathos and poesis (words piece) came from finally allowing myself to nose dive into ecological psych, which turns out was what my art was trying to tell me all along. studying movement, energy, flow and feeling.

to *make with feeling*. sort of the whole point of being alive, right?
