Yesterday afternoon I was in the Walmart parking lot about to load my groceries in my car. The lady in the disabled parking stop next to me was doing the same. I noticed she suddenly paused very awkwardly. Then she seized and fell stiff as a board backwards onto the pavement! From the sound of it I'm prety sure her head hit first. I honestly thought she was dead when I got to her. She was unresponsive with her eyes wide open not blinking and I couldn't tell if she was breathing. I checked for a pulse as I called 911. SHE HAD A PULSE! And surprising, she wasn't bleeding.
The Walmart parking lot is usually very busy but for some reason there wasn't anyone else around except for one man that glaced over as I hollered at him for help. He casually walked into store... I kneeled next to this lady on the hot pavement holding her hand. I introduce myself, asked her questions and tried to reassured her while I waited for dispatch to answer. When I got through I told them our location and what I'd witnessed, how old I thought she was, 60? (I was only a couple years off) and that she was diabetic (I noticed she had a glucose monitor on her arm) and that she was still unresponsive. Luckily by this time a few Walmart employees were on the sene. My mom mode kicked in and I started telling people what to do and to SHUT UP so I could hear the dispatchers instructions. Someone was able to find her driver's license so I was able to refer to her by name. We'll call her Kathy for privacy reasons.
Kathy started choking on her saliva. I couldn't move her myself so I did what mom's do best, I started delegating. You, Hold her head! You, grab her torso!
