Some cuteness from the Seaside rats 💚
And, as always, another medical issue. We have a mama with four babies who are about 3.5 weeks old. They are adorable, sweet little beans who all take after mama with their stunning good looks. Unfortunately, one of the babies sustained a tail injury at some point, which amputated the end of his tail, leaving the vertebrae exposed (shown in the last two slides. He is on antibiotics, but we are limited by his young age, and he is not yet old enough for surgery. So, due to human negligence and the overcrowded, filthy conditions they were kept in, he is forced to spend his days with part of his spine exposed.
While we can't rewrite what happened to him, we can provide him with all the love and care he deserves, and ensure the rest of his life is happy, comfortable, and full of snacks.
The Seaside rats have amassed vet bills totaling over $2800, including 5 emergency visits and two surgeries over the last week. We are in need of donations to help us cover their bills and get them on the road to recovery. Additionally, has taken on the bulk of the healthier rats and needs funds to help cover as many spay/aborts that they can. They have so far taken on 18 girls, most of whom are likely pregnant. .pint.sized.rescue has provided a ton of hands on care for these babies as well. All of us need your support to help us continue helping these babies. We literally can't do it without you. You make this all possible, and we appreciate each and every one of you.

F 1-17, now named Acacia, is getting prepped for surgery right now! She is one of the two girls from Seaside who had emergency visits yesterday. She has a respiratory infection, pyometra, and her urethra was inflamed and scabbed over. We don't know what we'll find in there, but we are so hoping her spay can be completed and she can rest and recover as she starts her new life in sanctuary.
Good luck, Acacia! We're all pulling for you.
The low end of her estimate is $716. We are desperately in need of funds to cover the costs from this rescue that totaled 62 juvenile to adult rats, plus dozens of babies (and counting!). We have another boy at the vet today for an emergency visit for a head tilt and rolling, and tomorrow we have another surgery and another emergency exam. After that, we have a laundry list of smaller concerns for the rats who will stay in our care. and .pint.sized.rescue need your support as well as they take on some of the healthier rats while they are evaluated and awaiting adoption. A pinned post on our grid has all the info!

Yesterday we removed more than 65 juvenile to adult rats, plus an actively increasing number of babies from a hot metal shed near Seaside, OR. This is a joint effort between Rat Way Sanctuary, Little Critter Crew, and A Pint-Sized Rescue. The two most urgent are at the vet today with serious health concerns, more are scheduled for tomorrow and Thursday, with a growing list of others needing care.
So far there are babies from at least 4 separate litters that were brought into our care yesterday, two more ladies gave birth overnight, another is expected to deliver today, and many more are confirmed or suspected pregnant.
The conditions of the animals and their cages were as appalling as we imagined. Cages caked with urine and f***s, hides waxy with waste, rats stained from sitting in their own waste, injuries and illnesses left untreated, and the smell! The smell hit us from 20 feet away from the shed. We are actively working with the county Animal Control agency to get justice for all these babies.Â
We are now working on triaging all of the animals and documenting their conditions. The next steps are to divvy them up between our organizations. RWS will focus on those with the most emergent medical issues, while LCC will take the bulk of the stable and healthy animals, including many pregnant and nursing mamas, and APSR is helping with hands on support, fostering, and they may take on some animals as well. We will all three need your support as we navigate this huge influx. Donation info is listed on the last two slides, as well as linked in our bios. Be sure to follow all three accounts to stay up to date!
A huge thank you to all our supporters - your donations make this all possible.
Giant neb chamber. All piled in the corner.
Three of our sanctuary boys, Tate, Rory, and Jimmy, plus two of our own rats, Buffy and Dougie Jones, get nebulized twice a day as part of their treatment for chronic respiratory disease.
The sanctuary is struggling with medical expenses. We had two big surgeries this week, an emergency visit, and a lot of maintenance care. We currently have a deficit of around $900. If you are able to help us out, please see below!

Uni is here in support of his brother, Ari, who is in surgery right now. His bladder herniated into his scrotal sack, and it needs to be put back and the hole closed up so his organs stay out going forward. The surgery will run us somewhere from $960 to $1164 if all goes as anticipated. We are crossing our fingers for him.
If you are able to help us cover his care, we appreciate it so much. It has been a struggle this year to keep up with our expenses, but the community has always come through in the end. We are so thankful for our supporters for allowing us to give our sanctuary residents the best care.

Welcome, May-Belle! We agreed to take in this beautiful lady a few months ago after her other rats passed. Last week, they said goodbye to her last friend, and she made her way to us on Sunday. She is two and a half and has a permanent head tilt from an ear infection that ruptured her right eardrum and she has some mobility issues, but she is a spunky senior who will hopefully integrate with Our senior/chronically ill group.
Upon arrival, we noted an odor and discharge from her previously infected ear, so at the direction of our vet,, she has resumed meds, and her ear is looking and smelling much better. Unfortunately, we noticed a firm mass in her abdomen on Wednesday evening, so today she has an emergency visit to get some rads to investigate. We're crossing our fingers for good news, or at least less bad news, for her.
Ari is also back at the clinic today for his hernia repair after an emergency surgery yesterday (not one of ours!) caused his procedure to be pushed back. Brian is recovering well after his neuter on Wednesday.
If you are able to help us cover some of these big expenses, we appreciate it so much. Your support means the world to us!
