When we started planning the Salkantay Trek, we spent hours searching for a training plan.
We found plenty of people saying, “Just hike more.” But almost no one explained how to actually prepare for five days of hiking, altitude, long descents, and carrying a backpack.
Looking back, these are the biggest mistakes we see people make before the trek- and they’re all avoidable.
You don’t need to be an elite athlete to complete the Salkantay Trek. You just need to train for the demands of the trek.
🥾What are you most nervous about: altitude, fitness, or packing?

One of the things we loved most about the Salkantay Trek was how much it changed every single day. From alpine mountain passes to cloud forests, coffee farms, and finally Machu Picchu, it never felt repetitive.
If you’re looking for an adventure that challenges you and rewards you every step of the way, this is one we’ll recommend over and over again.
Would you hike for 5 days to reach Machu Picchu?

If you have an overnight layer or even a long layover in Lima, Peru, you’re gonna wanna book a pod!
is the only in-terminal sleep pods and cabins in Lima airport and they are definitely worth the price.
The rooms are quiet, clean and comfy. We loved the convenience of not having to travel into the city for our overnight layover!

We had so much good food in Cusco! Everything we ate was delicious, and very well priced! If we had to choose, our favorites were probably Llama cafe, .cusco, and Ofrenda. In our opinion, you really can’t go wrong!
