Third Monday in April

Saturday night on the track. 🔥
The Wildwood Mile for Women + Girls celebrates runners of all paces and ages. From moms running with daughters to the fastest high schoolers in the country…we SHOWED UP.
Third Monday in April had the privilege of creating the branding and apparel for this event and knew it had to match the energy and inclusivity of the race. So we created a tattoo inspired main logo and 6 more logos for the back of the apparel, each honoring different types of runners. From the slow and steady to the F A S T and everyone in between.
What a night! While seeing our design come to life was amazing, the biggest win may have been running with my 17 year old (self proclaimed not a runner) daughter. We took our time, joked how we really shouldn’t have eaten right before the race and fist bumped after every lap. That’s the good stuff.
Thanks for a magical night Wildwood Running. 🔥

Spotted: .w.dorrington getting in some strength work at the gym. And since she’s a complete baddie, she did speed work on the track first. ✨

It’s been a rough go. 🖤 After months of not running, I did a 20 minute walk/run on the treadmill and took this pic to prove it. The sweaty top knot never lies.
I miss running. I miss creating for Third Monday in April.
Baby steps 🖤

I had the honor of spending the last few weeks by my mom’s side. After a 6 year battle with leukemia, she made one of the most difficult decisions any of us could ever make. She decided to stop her treatment. The clinical trial she was on (her 3rd) didn’t seem to be working and she was tired of being admitted to the hospital week after week for infection after infection. Tired of the never ending trips to the hospital for infusions. Tired of feeling so so tired.
She made her choice – had her pic line removed, got one more big bag of platelets and headed home.
We met her there. I booked one-way plane tickets for my daughters and me. My siblings did the same.
We were all hoping for the “weeks” we’d heard mentioned and not the “days.” Hoping to leave nothing unsaid. Hoping to laugh one more time. Walk one more time. Hold each other’s hands one more time.
My girls and I arrived on a Sunday. On Monday, we went for a 20 minute walk in the sun. On Tuesday, we shared a big family meal and blew up air mattresses as more siblings arrived. On Wednesday, we joked and giggled our way through a fantastically terrible holiday movie. By Thursday, we’d become full-time caregivers – knowing we were now doing for our mom what she had once done for us. We recognized the great great privilege in this. On Friday morning with my voice cracking, I read my mom part of the eulogy she’d asked me to write. By Friday night, having seen all 7 of her children that day, and surrounded by so so much love, she took her last breath.
I’m heartbroken.
And writing this here because Third Monday in April was a shared love for my mom and me. In fact, the stories of her early running days are a huge reason Third Monday in April exists. Sure, she proofread copy and modeled clothes, but most importantly, she believed. Starting your own brand is really quite silly. But she simply asked, “Why not? You have a story to tell.”
Actually mom, we have a story to tell.
All my love ♥️, Amie

My mom starting running marathons in the 1970s, just as women were officially allowed to enter races. All of her training partners were men. She did long runs in tube tops. Sports bras and women’s running shoes would eventually come, but she didn’t wait for that. She ran anyways.
Today she blazes a different trail…one filled with chemo infusions and clinical trials. Heartache and hope. She’s relapsed 4 times. And with her diagnosis, that’s pretty much unheard of. Most people just don’t make it this far.
Keep going mom. You got this. ❤️
