Pierre Governor Strength and Speed

🏋️‍♂️ THE GOVERNOR LIFT-A-THON IS COMING!🏋️‍♀️
Our student-athletes are ready to put in the work—and now we're asking our community to help us build a stronger future on Tuesday June 30th!
This summer, over 250 athletes are consistently participating in Governor strength and speed workouts. The weight room serves every sport, every season, and athletes of all ages. As one of the smaller schools in our class, our athletes have always competed through hard work, dedication, and community support.
Now it's time to invest in a facility that matches that commitment.
đź’Ş The Governor Lift-A-Thon will raise funds for much-needed upgrades to our high school weight room and training equipment.
Athletes will have 5 minutes in each lift to accumulate as much total weight as possible, and supporters can pledge either:
âś… A donation per pound lifted
âś… A flat donation amount
Every dollar raised will directly support improvements that benefit current and future Gov athletes!
đź“… Athletes: Use the QR code on the back of the pledge sheet for your Lift-A-Thon time slot. If you need a sheet emailed to you please let us know.
đź’µ Donations can be made by check payable to Pierre School District.
Whether you're a parent, alumni, local business, or Gov fan, your support helps provide opportunities for hundreds of student-athletes who represent our school with pride!
Together, we can build a weight room that keeps Govs strong for years to come!

Athletes of the week this week⬇️
🟢Boys Group 1: Cooper Terwilliger and Jerren Deal
Coop is doing a great job this summer consistently leading by example. This includes being driven to get the most out of every single training session by giving maximum effort while also having great attention to detail not just in training movements but attention to detail in sleep and diet as well.
Jerren has been another awesome leader in the weight room. On Monday Jerren came to workouts as long as he could before having to go to his football camp at USD. After football camp Jerren made it back to go to basketball open gym in the morning on Tuesday. This is a perfect example of what attacking the summer looks like!
Both of these athletes are very deserving because they attack each day and it’s clear that their habits consistently match their goals.
🟢Girls Group 1: Addison Merkwan
During the x-factor day this week on Wednesday Addison was very intentional on wanting to improve her acceleration by asking questions and then applying what we were working on right away. Addison is also extremely coachable in both the speed work and in the weight room. Big improvements coming for Addison!
🟢Girls Group 2: Adeline Schutz
Adeline’s approach to workouts has stuck out and her improvements in her times have shown that her hard work is paying off. Her focus in warm ups to improve her form combined with being aggressive in her acceleration in her sprints and attacking the weight room has been fun to see this summer!
🟢Boys Group 2: Ty Behm
We never have to question Ty’s work ethic and no matter how tough the movement is Ty is always willing to do it with a great attitude while also bringing energy to his teammates to do the very best they can! Ty is incredibly consistent in those things and is great to have for the training environment!
🟢Middle School Girls: Clare Swanson
Clare is another athlete that is locked in during every workout and it’s clear that she comes to get the most out of the workouts she possibly can! She’s extremely intentional in her lifting by doing the lifts how they are designed to be done while also ensuring she has proper form!
🟢Middle School Boys: Brecken Ottenbacher
Brecken has big goals for himself and he’s another athlete where his habits are matching his goals. Brecken does not take a rep off and is always attacking success by being aggressive in his movements and then does a great job taking coaching cues and applying them before the next rep.
These are always tough to come up with as there is a lot of athletes doing really well! Keep up the great work Govs!

🏆 TRUCK STICK TOP 10 🏆
Attached is our new Truck Stick Top 10 leaderboard!
What is Truck Stick?
Truck Stick measures momentum—the combination of an athlete's size and speed.
Formula:
Weight (kg) Ă— Top Speed (m/s) = Truck Stick Score (Ns)
Why does it matter?
Athletes with higher Truck Stick scores carry more momentum at top speed, giving them greater potential to apply force, absorb contact, maintain balance through impact, and create movement during competition.
While speed is a major factor, strength plays a huge role as well. Stronger athletes are often able to carry more body mass without sacrificing speed, leading to higher Truck Stick scores and greater impact potential.
Simply put: Strength builds the engine, speed drives the truck 🚛💨
Tiers:
đź’Ą Impactful
• Big Gov: 700+ Ns
• Big Skill: 650+ Ns
• Skill: 600+ Ns
🔥 Elite High School
• Big Gov: 800-900+ Ns
• Big Skill: 750+ Ns
• Skill: 700+ Ns
đź‘˝ Elite Super Freak
• 1,000+ Ns
This is the highest tier and is extremely rare, requiring an exceptional combination of size, strength, and speed.
Congratulations to everyone who earned a spot in this month's Top 10! Who's climbing the leaderboard next month? đź‘€
