NGC 6992, also known as the Eastern Veil Nebula, is a stunning, filamentary supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus. It is the glowing, expanding shockwave of a massive star that exploded 10,000 to 15,000 years ago. It sits about 1,500 to 2,400 light-years from Earth.

C 1318, often called the Butterfly Nebula, is a vast emission nebula near the bright star Gamma Cygni in the constellation Cygnus. Its wings of glowing hydrogen gas stretch across hundreds of light-years, sculpted by stellar winds and radiation from nearby massive stars.

Drove along Rim Rd for the views again. I really love this place and I always stop by whenever we pass through. From the edge of the cliffs you can see the wide open valley stretching out below. The pine forest here has been thinned out by a contracted crew to help prevent wildfires and to let the remaining trees grow stronger.

Toadstool Hoodoos, Utah
In geological terms, a Hoodoo is a rock spire formed by millions of years of erosion. It has a unique structure consisting of:
Caprock: A harder layer of rock located at the very top.
Pedestal: A softer layer of rock that forms the base or column.
Over time, wind and rain erode the softer lower section more quickly, causing it to thin out. This leaves a narrow pillar supporting a much larger rock on top, which creates the "mushroom" appearance.
