Light Upon Light Midwifery
05/20/2020
Are you wondering what midwifery care looks like? Well, it’s intimate, personal, warm and loving. I attend visits in family’s homes—even during this new time. There are some changes these days that include PPE, but my hope is that all the good feelings are still able to flow. I consider a true honor to be able to walk alongside families as they grow and develop. It never gets old seeing babies become toddlers become children. (📷: .fatima)

Dear Instagram,
It’s nice to meet you! For those who may not know me, I wanted to introduce myself. 👋🏽 My name is Mona, and I’m the midwife behind Light Upon Light Midwifery here in Phoenix. 🌞 Since 2017 I’ve been officially midwifing but I’ve attended births in varying capacities for something like 17 years (😳). I’m often asked how I came into midwifery, and the story goes like this: one day when I was just 16 I was watching a show about birth and just when I was leaving the room someone said the word ‘midwife,’ and I just froze. In my bones I knew that was what I was supposed to be. After that I was able to take a class through my high school that allowed me to do a medical mentorship with a medical professional of my choosing, and I was able to shadow 3 Nurse Midwives throughout my senior year. I attended about 10 births, and a number of other medical procedures related to women’s health and I was completely transfixed. 🤩
The power of women was so palpably evident, and it all felt like magic. 🌺
Over the next few years while I served families as a doula I learned more about midwifery and birth, and discovered the beauty of homebirth 🏠, and found my calling as a Certified Profession Midwife.
After attending the birth of hundreds of women, in February of 2019 I had my own birth experience. It. Was. A. Trip.💥 And while I had always had a profound appreciation of the postpartum period, it deepened even further when I had my son. 🤱🏽
So that’s a little bit about me! I’d love to get to know you, and all the questions your have about midwifery and homebirth.
Xoxo 😚

THIS is the article I wish I had when I was in my first and second trimester, feeling guilty about my imperfect diet as I dealt with nausea and vomiting. My mantra became “It’s not just about nutrients; get in calories where you can.” I think this article would have helped support that idea when I needed it most. Let me know your thoughts!
