The Chicago Tool library is a local nonprofit that survives off of membership donations, grants and other funding. They loan out tables and chairs for parties, power saws, drills, camping equipment, generators, ladders and literally whatever tool you need to borrow! Please respect the tool library and return everything you borrowed in the exact condition you borrowed it in.

Here’s how you use the @chicagotoollibrary :

1. Donate to become a member: you don’t have to pay the $100 but if you can you should. The model is pay what you can. Your contribution covers you for an entire year of unlimited access to thousands of tools. Your contribution helps the library pay staff, rent and so on because nobody should have to work for free.

2. Check the inventory online for whatever tool you need. You can see if the tool is available, checked out or overdue. If you don’t see a tool feel free to contact them to ask because the inventory may not be up to date.

3. Put a hold on your tool of choice: pick up your tool Thursdays through Sunday from the Tool Library located at 4015 W. Carroll! Follow the signs through the alley and enter from the back door. Free parking lot and CTA accessible (Pulaski green line)!

4. The most important step is to RETURN your borrowed tools on time: In order for this to work we cannot abuse the system. You get 7 days with your tools… you either use it or loose it but you cannot keep it.

The chicago tool library is such a valuable resource for us and the community. It’s also environmentally friendly because we are constantly reusing the tools that would have otherwise sat in your shed.

The next few things we are gonna borrow are a carpet cleaner and park clean up kits to help clean the trails.

*got random tools that you don’t need? Donate them to the Chicago Tool Library today!
