A white former Kansas detective has died days before his trial, accused of sexually abusing 10 Black women over decades.

Roger Golubski, 71, a 30‑year Kansas City, Kansas, police department veteran, was found dead of a self‑inflicted gunshot wound at his home just as jury selection was set to begin. He faced six felony counts of civil rights violations, with prosecutors alleging he demanded sexual favors and threatened to jail the relatives of poor Black women who refused. At least 10 victims were prepared to testify. The judge dismissed the charges after Golubski died, sparking outrage from advocates who said the community was denied a reckoning.
